Tavistock Socio-technical Model

Tavistock Socio-technical Model, developed by several sociologists and psychologists of Tavistoch Human Relations Institute presents itself as a very important contribute for the Management Systemic Approach. In this model the organization is characterized as a socio-technical system composed by two subsystems: the technical subsystem and the social subsystem, forming an alternative to the subsystems of Katz and Kahn.

. Technical subsystem: includes the tasks to perform, facilities, equipments and technologies and operational techniques, being responsible for the potential efficiency.

. Social subsystem: includes people, their characteristics and capacities and the social relations among them and is responsible for the transformation of the potential efficiency into real efficiency.
