Research and Development Concept

The expression Research and development (many times known by the acronym R&D) designates a group of activities or creative work performed systematically and looking for the human knowledge increase, as well as the use of these acknowledgments in new applications.

R&D concept includes three activity categories:

. Fundamental Investigation, that consists in work, experimental or theoretical, undertaken with the purpose of obtaining new scientific knowledge about the events foundations and observable facts, without the specific aim of practical application.

. Applied Investigation that consists in original work also performed looking for new knowledge acquisition, but with the purpose or a pre-determined goal.

. Experimental Development, which consists in the systematic use of existent knowledge, obtained by investigation and/or practical experience looking for the manufacturing of new materials, products or devices, new processes installation, systems or services, or the significant improvement of the ones already existent.
